  Disaster Recovery

DRC Hot Site
A disaster recovery hot site is a fully functional backup site, a backup facility that replicates the primary production facility. It includes the software, hardware, and network connectivity as the primary center, and enables real-time backup (data replication) of important data.

  • Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is near-zero.
  • Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is near-zero

Hot-Site summary:

  • fully redundant equipment
  • network connectivity is enable
  • failover occurs within hours or days
  • near real-time data synchronization
  • zero data loss
DRC Warm Site
A disaster recovery warm site is to prepare the standby hardware ready to be used, but backup data must be sent to the site to install.

  • Recovery Time Objective (RTO) can be 24-48 hours or more than depend on the amount of data.
  • Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is based on the most recent backup available. The data lost may be more than 24 hours.

Warm-Site summary:

  • partially redundant equipment
  • network connectivity is enabled
  • failover occurs within hours or days
  • schedule of data synchronization
  • minimum data loss
DRC Cold Site
A disaster recovery cold site is a backup facility with little or no hardware equipment installed. Using a cold site is very limiting to a business since before it can be used, hardware needs to be setup and backup data must be sent to the site to installed.

  • Recovery Time Objective (RTO) can be 48 hours to a week. This is because hardware preparation and data installation are required, which depends on the amount of data.
  • Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is based on the most recent backup available. The data lost may be more than 24 hours.

Cold-Site Summary:

  • little or no equipment
  • no network connectivity
  • not ready for automatic failover
  • no data  synchronization
  • high risk of data loss
